Sitar

What a way to end the evening. Listening to my son play his sitar in his room through the walls of our study. It makes me so grateful to be alive. Play on...

So glad we stayed in

Really glad we did not go out this evening as planned. Bone-weariness had set in after our wonderful brunch, and I felt the need to rest.

During that time, I ruminated enjoyably and productively, and now feel absolutely fabulous!

Hope you have a good week.

What a day it's been!

Just got back from a small family reunion welcoming one of our cousins to the Los Angeles area. We had a wonderful brunch, the 11 of us, with bagels, lox, cream cheese, gazpacho, fruit salad, and cake. Lots of stories---from the Civil Rights era to current events.

We talked about our cousin's career plans and found helpful connections among us that may aid her on her path. Looking forward to the next get-together.

Another gorgeous day in Los Angeles! Don't you wish you could be here? By the time I got outside, which was noon-ish, the sun was blindingly beautiful. I hung some clothes outside on the line. Now I think I'll go for a walk before it gets too late; I need the exercise.

I'm resolving to try to remain calm in all situations, not always easy to do. Would also like to enjoy each moment more, appreciate all life has to offer.

December 26

My son and I had a good time shopping at Whole Foods yesterday. It was a lot busier than we thought it would be, also festive and upbeat. Seems like everyone came out to shop on Christmas.

Today I've hung some clothes out on the line. The sunlight shone so crystalline, sharp, and pure. A dazzling winter day in Los Angeles. The air, cold and crisp, hard as a diamond. The backyard plants, shocked into existence. This beauty is hurled at you, and you have to breathe deep to take it in.

Christmas morning

Getting off to a slow start this cold Christmas day. It was nice to sleep in. We're planning on doing a little housecleaning, a little shopping (Whole Foods is open today) and a little more relaxing. Hope you'll have a good day too.

Christmas Eve Walk

I finally made it out of the house today and just came back from a glorious 25 minute walk around the neighborhood. There was just a little sunlight left, and the weather was still cold, although not as oppressive as it has been.

I was very happy to be walking, enjoying the Shabbat, and also feeling that the peaceful spirit was heightened by Christmas arriving tomorrow. Although I am not a Christian, I still feel inspired by the thought of someone as important as Jesus being born, even though the Jewish tradition does not regard him as the Messiah.
